This is a wholly original picture book.
Not A Box is the story of a little bunny playing with a box, and all the things he imagines that box to be. It is a simple, simple story, but if the readers adopts the bunny's seemingly limitless imagination, the story becomes anything but simple.
The text and illustrations are both joyfully uncomplicated, perfect for the youngest audience. The text and illustrations effectively put imagination into concrete terms for young children. It gives voice to all those days children have spent sitting in the box from the new refrigerator imagining it is anything but a box.
I challenge any adult reading this to remember this very experience of playing with an empty box and all the possibilities it held, yet our children may have not had this experience. Our new world might be a bit too busy to allow those uninterrupted hours in the backyard with a box. If this last statement is true, then this wonderfully imaginative book can remind us of the value of such an effortless activity.
